Kids Marathon Finishers

The boys have been logging time at school and on our training runs up to 25 miles. This morning they ran the final mile to complete the 26.2 Miracle Match Kids Marathon. They got medals and everything.

Way to go, boys!

Friday Weigh In

Today is Friday and the day I selected for WW weigh in, mostly because I eat so bad on the weekends, I need the Weekly Points early on.  Anyway, 11.5 pounds since 1/1/2010.  Averaging 2.9 pounds a week.  I've lost 1.5 inches in my waist and chest and 3.5 inches in my thighs.  Weird.

Almost a month in and I have been pretty successful in my campaign to not clean my plate.  It seems to be paying off.

Tomorrow morning the boys are participating in a one mile run but that one mile is an important one.  It is the final mile in the Kids Marathon they have been working on for the last couple of months.  The are really excited about it; they get a medal and everything.  Too bad it's going to be friggin' freezing this weekend.

Sunday, I will be running my first half marathon.  It will also be cold.  I always say, however, I'd rather be cold than hot.

The Evidence

The boys will be running in a 1-miler this weekend. It will be the last mile they need to complete their Kids Marathon and they are super excited about that. They have run just under the 26.2 at school and while training this year.

I have signed up to run the associated Miracle Match Half Marathon on Sunday. Amy and her sister are planning to do it, too. After running 10-miles this past weekend, I figured what they heck, right? It's supposed to be really cold though.

The one where I stick with it

I'm going to see about sticking with the program. I have to say that using the Galloway run/walk is the first time I've been able to stick to running without painful shin splints. I ran 10 miles on Friday, I never could have done that on a full on run, but I've been doing a run for 1 minute/walk for 1 minute 30 and I could have kept going after the 10. I couldn't feel better today. That's a good thing because I signed up to run the half marathon here in Waco this weekend.

The one where the running got easier

Tonight's run was much easier than the past ones. I guess that is a good thing. It was a bit rainy but I decided I better get out and do it. Week 3 Workout 2 done.

The one where I realize this isn't just about one particular running style

This doesn't have much to do with the program, other than I did run 3 miles today, but it seemed blog-worthy. I really had just set out to walk the dog, but figured I'd jog a little too. Before long I had gone 3 miles doing a 1.5 minute walk to a 1 minute run. It was so nice out side that I just kept going. Seven miles later, we were walking into the back door, tired but feeling good about getting that much activity in today. Now, nap!

Weigh in time!

I mentioned a WW weigh-in in my last post, -3.5 pounds, thank you. I completed Week 2 Workout 3 this afternoon with no pain. We head to Houston next weekend for the 5K while Amy does the marathon. Since the boys will be with me we will just be walking it. I might see if I can push them a bit, though.

The Art of Manliness

The Family Style portion is not working out to well, but I got my workout in tonight. Another 20 minutes of interval training. Man, is it ever cold and windy out there. It feels good, though.

I've started back with Weight Watchers online, too. My weigh-in is tomorrow but I'm not expecting much, I'm having a hard time bringing down the amount of food. I read somewhere recently to slow down your eating. I've been trying to repeat the alphabet while chewing and enjoy each bite more. I know exactly where I read that, The Art of Manliness, by Brett and Kate McKay (http://www.amazon.com/Art-Manliness-Classic-Skills-Manners/dp/1600614620). It was a great read, by the way. They also have a wonderful website and web community as well at http://artofmanliness.com.

Back on it again!

With the new year, we are back on the program. I actually ran a 5K in December using Amy's Galloway Method. I tried to keep up with her and her mentor Jeff Galloway, but made it about a mile with them before slowing down. I ended up doing a one minute walk and thirty second run after hooking up with two Galloway ladies doing the same and finished it in 45 minutes. We are signed up for a 5K in Houston in two weeks while Amy is running the marathon but as I have both boys with me, it will be more of a walk.
