The one where I stick with it

I'm going to see about sticking with the program. I have to say that using the Galloway run/walk is the first time I've been able to stick to running without painful shin splints. I ran 10 miles on Friday, I never could have done that on a full on run, but I've been doing a run for 1 minute/walk for 1 minute 30 and I could have kept going after the 10. I couldn't feel better today. That's a good thing because I signed up to run the half marathon here in Waco this weekend.

The one where the running got easier

Tonight's run was much easier than the past ones. I guess that is a good thing. It was a bit rainy but I decided I better get out and do it. Week 3 Workout 2 done.

The one where I realize this isn't just about one particular running style

This doesn't have much to do with the program, other than I did run 3 miles today, but it seemed blog-worthy. I really had just set out to walk the dog, but figured I'd jog a little too. Before long I had gone 3 miles doing a 1.5 minute walk to a 1 minute run. It was so nice out side that I just kept going. Seven miles later, we were walking into the back door, tired but feeling good about getting that much activity in today. Now, nap!

Weigh in time!

I mentioned a WW weigh-in in my last post, -3.5 pounds, thank you. I completed Week 2 Workout 3 this afternoon with no pain. We head to Houston next weekend for the 5K while Amy does the marathon. Since the boys will be with me we will just be walking it. I might see if I can push them a bit, though.

The Art of Manliness

The Family Style portion is not working out to well, but I got my workout in tonight. Another 20 minutes of interval training. Man, is it ever cold and windy out there. It feels good, though.

I've started back with Weight Watchers online, too. My weigh-in is tomorrow but I'm not expecting much, I'm having a hard time bringing down the amount of food. I read somewhere recently to slow down your eating. I've been trying to repeat the alphabet while chewing and enjoy each bite more. I know exactly where I read that, The Art of Manliness, by Brett and Kate McKay (http://www.amazon.com/Art-Manliness-Classic-Skills-Manners/dp/1600614620). It was a great read, by the way. They also have a wonderful website and web community as well at http://artofmanliness.com.

Back on it again!

With the new year, we are back on the program. I actually ran a 5K in December using Amy's Galloway Method. I tried to keep up with her and her mentor Jeff Galloway, but made it about a mile with them before slowing down. I ended up doing a one minute walk and thirty second run after hooking up with two Galloway ladies doing the same and finished it in 45 minutes. We are signed up for a 5K in Houston in two weeks while Amy is running the marathon but as I have both boys with me, it will be more of a walk.
